Hi! My name is Alix, and I’m a 16 year old activist residing in Silver Spring, Maryland.
To tell you a little about myself: I’m interested in so many different things. One of my main ones is media and communications. I love to write, and I write for a Washington D.C./Maryland/Virginia based magazine called Novice Magazine. It involves going out and meeting young artists and telling their stories. I capture stories in other ways too, such as on film. A strength and interest of mine is video editing. I do projects alone, and with the help of others. I have entered and won awards in C-SPAN StudentCam’s competition twice. I recently got interested in photography, so I am working on using this as a storytelling medium as well.
I am also very interested in social justice. I was one of three founding members of Black CAP at my high school (about Black CAP), and I continue to fight oppression in my community.
In my free time, I like to go to Girl Power Meetups (created by Samera Paz), where we manifest positive relationships between young women. I also enjoy volunteering at homeless shelters, and hanging out with my friends.
